In early June I travelled to Calgary, Albert where Senior Iyengar Teacher Eyal Shifroni was leading a 4 day workshop. Although tired after many hours of driving yoga has a way of refreshing the body and mind. Yoga, when practiced properly can rejuvenate and recuperate the body and mind in a way that you realize you have more inside you to give then you expected and it comes out not as depleting you but actually with a sense of feeling so much better.
I also want to say thank you to the Calgary Iyengar Community who arranged this workshop. Bringing in teachers from other countries to teach is no easy task and from last few workshops I have attended they have done an amazing job. Really every workshop I have attended in different cities have always been so great. How the communities come together to help out is really wonderful to see. There is often a lot of prop hauling :)
Eyal has such grace in demonstrating and teaching the asanas. He asked us to think and reflect on over the 4 days - Why do yoga? and What does progression in yoga mean?
I ask you to consider this too as it good to think about. I feel my answer 24 years ago when I first started would be a little different then it is today. But even saying that I knew there was more to yoga then just exercise, if not I would have just stayed with the aerobic classes I was doing and teaching.
It is difficult to distill down 4 days into a post and I am still going through my notes and reflecting on what I learned even now. Here are a few photos from the workshop. I hope as I continue to learn and develop that I am able to bring some of these and the many teachings I receive into my classes.
Just a few of us from the workshop - the Monday group :)
There were many more from Friday to Sunday.
Namaste.
