Last week I was fortunate to be able to attend the annual IYAC/ACYI AGM and conference in Vancouver where long time student of B.K.S. Iyengar, Zubin Zarthoshtimanesh came to teach.
The classes were full of a mix of theory with movement - bringing the action and awareness of the teachings into our own bodies. Zubin is very articulate in explaining a point and made sure we understood the importance of the teachings. Zubin would call us to the front to ensure we SAW what he was explaining and then try in our own bodies.
One might wonder what is the point of that?
Right from the beginning it was to show the integration in each pose. Zubin mentioned a few times how we now have an asana class, a pranayama class a meditation class, etc. but B.K.S. brought this into each and every pose. Once he mastered asanas he didn't stop doing and just work on the breath and then stop doing and begin meditation. He integrated each limb of yoga into his life.
The physical body allows us to bring the awareness and consciousness from the skin to the muscles to the nerves to the very core of our being. They allow us to access different parts of the body.
So, upon my return I have much to continue to digest into my own practice and I hope one day can share in my classes the same brilliant way Zubin was able to in Vancouver.
Namaste.
